Sara Brannan, a senior social work major, was chosen as January’s DJ of the month at WXJM. I wanted to ask her a few questions so we could get to know her a little better.
Q: What is your show? Do you have co-hosts?
A: Yeah so I have Sweaty Nuisance on Fridays from 12 to 2 with Ingrid. And I have Brazey Bunch on Wednesdays from 7 to 8 with Harrison and Aaron. One is a talk show and Sweaty Nuisance is Indie music and science facts. Brazey Bunch is just talking about whatever we want for an hour.
Q: What got you into that genre/doing that show for WXJM?
A: I wanted a show and didn’t know anyone who didn’t have one. Someone recommended it to me and that’s how we got together. Brazey Bunch started when Harrison wanted to do a talk show about movies but someone already had that so we just do whatever.
Q: Who is your inspiration?
A: Frida Kahlo.
Q: If you could eternally be stuck in one year's music scene, which year would it be?
A: A tie between ‘90s and ‘70s… probably ‘97. I feel like a lot of good albums came out a couple years before that so they would be at their height at that time.
Q: Outside of the station, what else are you involved in?
A: I’m in my field placement. It’s an internship with Child Protective Services and I’m on the investigative team. I do a lot of home visits and report intake and studying about child abuse. I’m liking it more than I thought I would but I’m not sure if I want to do that specifically. I like hanging out with friends and watching Netflix.
Q: Anything else you would like to add?
A: It’s nice to know that we have DJ of the Month.
